OUR HISTORY

Christ King Convent Girls School was founded on June 5,1939 as the     school of  Congregation of Teresian Carmelites. The nuns of the convent guided by the vision and mission of the foundress, Servant of God, Mother Eliswa  thus lit the candle in an age where education was a distant dream for girls. It led generations from darkness to light, from ignorance to knowledge, enlightening, empowering and encouraging the girl child to break the barriers of gender, religion ,custom and tradition. This humble beginning transformed the culture of the otherwise   under developed and backward region of Ponnurunni .

The school started with just 10 children on the verandah of the convent. The following year, the strength increased to 90 and the two rooms adjoining the convent verandah were transformed into classrooms. The construction of the U.P. building was completed on June 1941.The school was shifted to a temporary shelter in the same year.

As the number of children grew annually, the management sacrificed a lot to construct new building. In 1945, the LP section began in the west side of the convent. In 1946 the construction of the high school building was completed. In 1947, the LP section and the high school were shifted to the newly constructed building .

In 1952, the first shed on the north side was demolished.  Another semi-permanent shed built on the south west and the east west. The rooms at the southern and northern ends of the building were closed and secured.

In 1955 a permanent three storeyed building was built along the eastern edge of the existing semi-permanent shed. Some classes in the high school section and the laboratory were shifted to it.

In 1960, a building with 4 classrooms was built to the south-east. In 1963, four classrooms were built on the first floor of the building. Despite the financial crisis the construction was completed by the management without collecting donations from students and well wishers. In 1973, the number of divisions increased to 19. For the next 14 years students denied admissions because of lack of classrooms.  The  golden jubilee was on January 28 and 29, 1989. In 2000 at the dawn of the new millennium, a three-storey building with eight classrooms was constructed.
